Heavy Truck State of the Industry

The heavy truck industry, like most industries today, is adapting to changing economic conditions and uncertainty. Following a pandemic where dealers experienced several years of training employees through persistent staffing issues along with restoring efficiency and profitability, many operations are grappling with a new set of problems they’ve never encountered before.

That’s why CDK Heavy Truck surveyed dealership employees from department heads and leadership to front-line staffers in the trucking industry to understand what challenges they faced in the last 12 months, how they responded to impacts, and implemented changes.

Now that inventory shortages are easing across the industry, we wanted to uncover how heavy truck dealers are positioning their operations for the future, how they’re responding to technology needs, and maintaining OEM relationships.

We also share key takeaways on new strategies worth investing in along with recommendations for what still works in their existing operations in order to remain workforce-ready and ultimately enhance the customer experience.
